If you feel numb or shut down
Why numbness happens, and one small way back.
You don't have to force a feeling. Numb is a stage, not a flaw.
When you're ready, one small thing can help you feel a little more here:
- a warm drink
- stepping outside
- texting one person
Give it time. The feeling comes back on its own.
Why this happens
When something is too much to take in, your nervous system can turn feelings down to protect you. This is called freeze or shutdown, and it sits right alongside fight or flight as a normal survival response. It isn't you giving up. It's your body buying you time, and it lifts on its own as you start to feel safer.
