When your kid needs more help
Signs it's time to reach out, and where to turn.
Most reactions ease within a few weeks. It's worth reaching out to a professional if:
- A reaction lasts more than two to four weeks, or suddenly shows up later on.
- It's getting in the way of school, sleep, eating, or friendships.
- You see a big change from who your kid usually is. You know their baseline. Trust it.
- A teen is leaning on alcohol or drugs to cope, or says anything about not wanting to be here.
You know your kid best. Reaching out isn't an overreaction, it's good parenting.
